New Levy on Single Use Carrier Bags
Date: 30th November 2009All retailers will be subject to a levy on single use carrier bags under The Climate Change Act. The timetable for its implimentation has been announced by The Welsh Assembly, however retailers still have time to influence how the scheme will operate at a meeting with Peter Davies Sustainable Commissioner for Wales on Monday 7th December, 7.30pm at Haverfordwest Rugby Club.
The meeting has been organised by PBN in conjunction with The Federation of Small Business.

Business Rates continued
Date: 30th November 2009Businesses concerned about the issues should do two things:
1. register an appeal with the VOA - http://www.2010.voa.gov.uk/rli/
2. Write to Political representatives- MEP-MP-AM's expressing concerns and suggesting that a version of transitional relief and small business relief schemes available in England should be copied in Wales.

Business Rates
Date: 30th November 2009There has been considerable concern in local business about the impact of the massive rises in business rates for Pembrokeshire to be applied from April 2010.
At a briefing by the Valuation Office at PBN Conference in November, there was understanding that there may be ground for reductions in valuation if adjacent premises have recently deteriorated in standards, or become closed.
In addition to this the business rates in England have benefited from transitional relief and small business relief arrangements, limiting rate rises to 5% for small businesses in 2010/11. Continued in next notice.....
