Crymych Area Business Network

There is archaeological evidence that ancient peoples built on Frenni Fawr and Foel Drigarn during the Bronze and Iron Ages. There is evidence of Roman activity in the area such as the Flemings Way, which runs along the Preseli’s from Crymych to Brynberian and links with the road to Hermon. There is also the remains of a Chapel at Castellan which points to Medieval activity. A number of local place names suggest an association with the Templar Knights in the area.

It is believed that the Drovers chose Crymych as a meeting place because of its location where six old roads converged in the natural gap between the Frenni Fawr and Foel Drigarn hills. It was here that the Crymych Arms became a stop on the Cardi Bach railway. The first stage from Whitland to Crymych was completed by 1876, while the extension to Cardigan was not opened until 1886. Once the rail links to the industrial areas were established the livestock market developed in importance. Crymych grew rapidly with many small firms and especially the opening of the banks, early in the 20th century.
