Lamphey is an historic village of about 540 people and is situated in a fertile valley about two miles from the coast. The community is a welcoming one with a wealth of character, heritage, and community spirit A warm welcome is extended to new residents.
The people of Lamphey are friendly and caring. There is a strong sense of community with a good mix of ages. The community boasts a village hall, and sports ground, church hall, primary school, and easy access to the countryside and the coast.
The various associations, clubs and societies work well together. Residents generally feel safe, secure and relaxed in a relatively crime free environment and consider that such an atmosphere makes the village a thriving community and a happy place for children.
Residents are strongly of the opinion that the present scale of the village with its key facilities of the church, shop, pub and village hall should be retained. There is concern that the development of Pembroke combined with significant growth of the village could lead to Lamphey becoming a suburb of Pembroke with a corresponding loss of identity and a reduction in local services and community activities.
Local businesses include the thriving Spar shop and petrol filling station. The shop incorporates a Post Office with its vitally important services, including a limited banking facility. Successful hairdressers which serves the village and surrounding area. There are a number of hotels and restaurants including the Dial Inn, Lamphey Hall, Lamphey Court and the Lantern Grill. Lamphey Court is host to a leisure centre / health and fitness club
Other local employers include an appreciated bakery (founded 1921), the farms as well as hotels, restaurants and some B & Bs. Chevron is among the larger employers in the general area.
Local services include the delivery of prescriptions from nearby chemists, the travelling library, groceries etc from supermarkets.
The community would like to see more service provision locally thereby reducing the need for journeys to a few centres and local sourcing of foods therefore reducing food miles; reducing dependence on the large supermarkets and creating better access to healthier foods and living healthier lives.
