Maenclochog Area Business Network

The Maenclochog community lies only 1 mile outside the border of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and has long been the ‘trading post’ for an area of scattered moorland farms, villages and slate quarries. As such, it was well supplied in the early 1900s with pubs and chapels, as well as rural tradesmen of every description. Regular sheep and horse-fairs were held here, attracting buyers and sellers from all over the mountains. Although quieter nowadays, it is still a very agricultural area that still serves the hill-farming community and is a good base for walking in the Preseli Hills. The Preselau are an ancient upland landscape, steeped in history - they are the highest range of hills in Pembrokeshire, rising to 536m at Foel Cwm Cerwyn. On a clear day you can see as far as the Llŷn peninsula in north Wales and the Wicklow hills in Ireland.
